Labor Day Weekend

Friday, September 15th, 2006

Mama and I had the dreaded garage sale today, something you should only do once a decade or so. My son was home for the festivities that occur each Labor Day weekend in our town, so he was available to help set up. Every thing was priced and ready to go, so this went pretty quickly. A few people stopped very early to take a look, but these people know what they are looking for and it didn’t take long. By 8:00 there was a steady stream of people coming and going. Time passed quickly, and by 1:00 traffic had slowed and we closed shop. We had a little money in our pocket and quite a bit less stuff, so we considered it a success.

Heat Wave

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

The heat wave has hit central Indiana. Up into the 90’s every afternoon, and humidity almost that high. We have had some much needed rain, and everything is nice and green. It is still cooling down into the 60’s at night, which makes it much more bearable.
My brother has been revamping the family web site www.ballfam.net/new and it its looking really nice. I would encourage anyone who has not checked it out to do so. We are hoping to get our mom to write some family history on there, so it is not lost.
Not much happening here. But I hadn’t written in a while so thought I would touch base

Ball Game

Friday, June 30th, 2006

I went to my friend’s daughter’s softball game tonight.  In our small town, during May and June, the social scene revolves around the ball park.  I had not been down there yet this year, but not much has changed from years past when I used to watch my son play.  The difference I did notice was between the girls softball and boys baseball.  These girls had constant chatter going on.  I’m not talking about the usual “batta, batta, batta”, these girls had jingles, different ones for anything that happened.  One for a high pitch, one for a low pitch, one for a hit, another for a run scored. The show was quite enjoyable, the girls on both teams seemed to have a really good time.  Our team won, but the win seemed incidental in the whole evening.  I kind of like it that way

Dinner and a Walk

Saturday, June 24th, 2006

My brother and sister-in-law are visiting from San Diego this week, so after dinner at Cracker Barrel we went for a walk on a portion of the Cardinal Greenway.  Pleasantly cool with a sometimes breeze we walked through the tunnel of trees for about a mile and a half.  We are fortunate to have this amenity in our community.  This portion of the trail follows along and then crosses Walnut Creek.   A water interest always makes a walk more interesting.  That along with good company made the walk go quickly.
